Professionally a Visual Artist for over 30 years, I occasionally have poems that come to me. The past year I have dealt with Breast Cancer. My collection of works on this site reflect this unexpected and difficult journey. Gather Round Me Nest

Oh gather these things round me.

Round my room and into boxes marked "new".

The money spent is silly in exuberance and steward-less sinfulness.

Two hundred dollar leather wool boots and Costco matters.

Pregnant and driven with unknown, excited anticipation.

Out with the old and chipped and into the broken boxes goes my MAINE home.

Things you don't live everyday:

Yesterday I went to the Chemo facility to get an ovary suppression injection and to start 10 years of post Chemo medicine.

In the waiting room, I witnessed a bald woman in her 30's , shackled with heavy metal chains and escorted by two prison guards walking in for treatment.

Angus smiles with muscles bulging.

Yes, it is Pink Shirt Day.

For me on this new anti-depressant, it also is Pink Shirt Day.

The worlds does seem a bit rosier.

The sky is Grey and Gloomy and Rainy and Cold.

But inside my mind now, I am unaffected.

Arms On The Floor

I can finally lie on my back with my arms spread in a T.

Today, three weeks after Mastectomy, prone at Planet Fitness and appearing to be lazy just smiling with my arms on the floor - OT stretching exercise success.

Still no lifting the gallon of milk and humiliated at using the bowling ramp on New Year's.

Joy achieved on this grimy purple M mat in the corner of a Wednesday gym.

Saturday Before Easter

Sheep to decorate.

Spring clothes to find.

Lamp port to tie bows on.

Icy lime pie to make.

Take Se' to HAIR appointment.

As always, cat litter and laundry.

PREPARATION

I have 10 days to prepare for the journey.

Double Mastectomy, 6 weeks limited arm us , possible Chemo.

Lord, help me to know how to do this.

My studio as a happy place to maybe paint with my feet.

Christmas decorated and wrapped.

Bills paid and blogs posted.

All In The Room

We are All In This Room.

Together.

Finally.

Angus home from West Point - painfully agreeing to spend 3 nights away from Athena at the cabin. Now reading Muscle Magazines next to me on the couch. We hiked up Mount Cardigan today with a foot of snow, then we gave two stranded hikers a ride back to their car. Fiona, quiet on our bed reading teen magazines.

All together now, just for a fleeting moment. I'm not under the illusion that this hour will last beyond the night.

Thank you God for this cabin, be it small and humble - it is our only property. I don't know the next time Angus will agree to be with us in this place.

Windows still closed but lighter jacket on.
